This October 19-23 join us the 16th Annual Toronto After Dark: Horror, Sci-Fi & Action Film Festival, at Scotiabank Theatre, 259 Richmond St. West, Toronto!

Thrilling highlights this year include two scary new supernatural tales PREY FOR THE DEVIL and EVIL EYE, fan favourite director Neil Marshall's (THE DESCENT) latest new sci-fi horror THE LAIR, a double bill of apocalyptic mayhem on our ZOMBIE NIGHT, and LIVING WITH CHUCKY, a new documentary about the most famous killer doll in the world! OCTOBER 19 - 23, 2022 - FILM SCHEDULE


WEDNesday, OCTOBER 19 - OPENING NIGHT!

7.00 PM: prey for the devil (USA) - Opening gala film

Special Presentation. Director - Daniel Stamm
**Director & Select Cast In Attendance for Post-Screening Q&A**
Toronto After Dark kicks off in style this year with a not-to-be-missed Special Presentation of the highly anticipated scary new supernatural movie PREY FOR THE DEVIL, directed by returning festival filmmaker Daniel Stamm (THE LAST EXORCISM). A young nun, newly enrolled in Exorcism school, finds herself in a terrifying battle for the soul of a demonically possessed young girl! The fantastic cast is led by Toronto-born rising star Jacqueline Byers (SALVATION) and also includes fan favourites Virginia Madsen (CANDYMAN) and Colin Salmon (RESIDENT EVIL).

9.30 PM: H4Z4RD (BELGIUM)

Canadian Premiere. Director - Jonas Govaerts.
Strap in for a bloody wild and darkly funny, action-packed ride in H4Z4RD, the high octane Fantastic Fest hit crowdpleaser, from the twisted mind of acclaimed screenwriter Trent Haaga (CHEAP THRILLS, DEADGIRL). Noah Hazard (Euro superstar DJ Dimitri ‘Vegas’ Thivaios) finds himself having the worst day of his driving life when his bad seed cousin involves him in a drug deal that goes terribly wrong. It's not long before the duo are covered in blood, racing for their lives on the streets of Antwerp, with a bodycount that keeps piling up!

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 20 - SCI-FI NIGHT!

7.00 PM: SOMETHING IN THE DIRT (USA)

Toronto Premiere. Directors - Justin Benson, Aaron Moorhead
A huge hit at Sundance, SOMETHING IN THE DIRT is the latest sci-fi horror mystery puzzlebox from TADFF favourites Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (The Endless, Spring, Resolution). Two young neighbours set out to record on film various paranormal activities in their apartment building. Soon they find themselves caught up in something that appears to be not of this world! No trailer can do this incredible film justice, just come and experience it!

9.45 PM: THE LAIR (U.K.)

North American Premiere. Director - Neil Marshall
Acclaimed Toronto After Dark alum Neil Marshall (THE DESCENT, DOG SOLDIERS) brings thrills and chills once more to underground caves with his latest action-packed sci-fi horror movie THE LAIR! Deep in the mountains of Afghanistan, a squad of allied soldiers stumble across an abandoned underground Soviet facility. But their visit awakens something in the lair, and the squad soon find themselves in the fight of their lives against enemy forces that don't appear to be human!

friday, OCTOBER 21 - zombie night!

7.00 PM: mexzombies (mexico)

North American Premiere. Director - Chava Cartas
When the undead apocalypse strikes on Halloween night in a small gated community in Mexico, its up to a bunch of local high school misfits to save the day. Featuring an endearing bunch of freaks and geeks coming up with inventive kills to take down the undead, MEXZOMBIES is a fantastic fusion of ZOMBIELAND, STRANGER THINGS and THE GOONIES! Alas we only have a so-so teaser trailer. Just trust us: you'll be kicking yourself in the brainssss if you miss this crowdpleaser destined to be a huge hit with the Toronto After Dark audience!

9.30 PM: DAY ZERO (PHILLIPINES)

North American Premiere. Director - Joey De Guzman
If you’re looking for more heart pounding zombie action in the vein of previous TADFF hit TRAIN TO BUSAN, look no further than DAY ZERO! When a virus outbreak starts turning everyone in the city into bloodthirsty ghouls, an inmate with Special Forces training (MMA-fighter Brandon Vera) breaks out of jail and decides to fight his way through the hordes to get home. Incorporating bare fisted martial arts with zombie fighting this innovative Filipino apocalyptic actioner is an intense ride not to be missed!

Ontario Premiere. Director - Gabriele Mainetti
Our audience is in for a lavish, big budget sci-fi fantasy treat with the Venice Film Fest hit FREAKS OUT. During World War II in occupied Rome a group of circus freaks with super powers band together to fight against the oppressive German army. Alas we just have a teaser, not a proper trailer for this absolutely stunning crowdpleaser! Just Imagine INGLORIOUS BASTERDS fused with the X-MEN, directed with the visionary style of Guillermo del Toro and you get an idea of why you won't want to miss this multiple audience-award winner on the Big Screen!

9.15 PM: EVIL EYE (MEXICO)

Canadian Premiere. Director - Isaac Ezban

If you're looking for scares in the dark, look no further than EVIL EYE, a terrifying new rural witchcraft horror movie from Mexico that will have fans jumping out of their seats in fear! When hospital treatment fails, two desperate parents decide to leave their sick daughter Luna with her grandmother who lives near the woods. It's not long before Luna realizes that evil lurks in Granny's house! Possibly the scariest film in our lineup this year, you've been warned!

6 PM: LIVING WITH CHUCKY (USA)

Canadian Premiere. Director - Kyra Elise Gardner
**Director In Attendance for Post-Screening Q&A**
Join us for the Canadian Premiere of LIVING WITH CHUCKY, a fan-delighting new feature documentary from Toronto After Dark short film alum Kyra Elise Gardner, daughter of Chucky’s head puppeteer! Interviewing everyone involved in the Chuckyverse , Kyra reveals the true behind the scenes secret story of all things Chucky. And what makes this doc really special is the the unique personal point of view she adds as someone whose lived with the dolls and actors as an extended part of her family since she was born! The Q&A with Kyra following the screening will be an added special treat for Chucky fans. Co-stars Chucky creator Don Mancini, actors Brad Dourif, Jennifer Tilly, John Waters and more! No trailer but trust us, this film which just won the Audience Award at Florida’s Popcorn Frights Film Festival is an absolute crowd-pleaser for Chucky fans!

9.00 PM: HERE FOR BLOOD (CANADA) CLOSING GALA FILM

World Premiere. Director - Daniel Turres

Join us for the World Premiere of HERE FOR BLOOD, an awesome new horror action comedy, that was made locally to boot! A demon-worshipping cult breaks into a couple's home to abduct their daughter. But they don't count on the babysitter (Shawn Roberts from RESIDENT EVIL APOCALYPSE) being a pro-wrestler. Bloody mayhem ensues! Full of great gore gags, action and demonic comedy in the vein of THE EVIL DEAD series, this is a Toronto After Dark crowd-pleasing finale not to be missed!
