SYNOPSIS

Following in the footsteps of Scott Glosserman’s BEHIND THE MASK: THE RISE OF LESLIE VERNON and Adam Green’s HATCHET, David Arquette’s THE TRIPPER injects fresh blood into the American slasher movie with an all-star cast, far-out premise and style to burn.

The fun begins when a van full of hippies –including ones played by Lucas Hass (BRICK) and Kevin Smith sidekick Jason Mewes – hit the road for a music festival in the woods. After barely escaping local rednecks, including one played by the director, it’s full speed ahead for a weekend of sex, drugs and rock ’n’ roll. Unfortunately, a hatchet-wielding maniac dressed like Ronald Reagan is carving up partiers in the woods, though. As a shady promoter, played by Paul “Pee-Wee Herman” Reubens, tries to cover up the deaths, a beleaguered local lawman, played by Thomas Jane (THE PUNISHER), investigates the rising body count. Is the killer the angry hermit in the woods? A spurned Republican boyfriend (played by Bathazar Getty)? The rednecks? Or someone even crazier?

Arquette tosses psychedelic effects and political imagery into the bloody, violent mix, elevating THE TRIPPER above average slasher fare. Watch for a cameo by Arquette’s wife Courtney Cox in this surefire crowd-pleaser.
