FEATURES AFTER DARK
14 amazing new horror and fantasy features from six countries, spread across five thematic spotlights, are at the core of this year’s Features After Dark program. In our Zombies! spotlight, fans can look forward to a dark and gritty invasion in the opening gala film MULBERRY STREET, the fast-paced outbreak of AUTOMATON TRANSFUSION and a hysterical zombie comedy with POULTRYGEIST: NIGHT OF THE CHICKEN DEAD.
Our Asian Thrilling Cinema spotlight comprises of the outrageous animation AACHI & SSIPAK from Korea, Vietnamese martial arts action in THE REBEL, acclaimed Japanese director Tsukamoto’s NIGHTMARE DETECTIVE, and a terrifying new horror film from Thailand, ALONE.
Leading the charge in the Sword & Sorcery spotlight is IN THE NAME OF THE KING: A DUNGEON SIEGE TALE which features a host of genre stars battling the evil forces of Ray Liotta, plus the most expensive Russian film ever, in the form of fantasy epic WOLFHOUND. Our Documentary spotlight feature is AUDIENCE OF ONE, a riveting and hilarious tale about a priest trying to make a biblical version of STAR WARS.
Finally our Bloody Good Time spotlight has plenty of the red stuff flowing with a dash of humour on the side. In the horror black comedy BLOOD CAR, it’s the titular vehicle wreaking most of the carnage, while in David Arquette’s THE TRIPPER, an axe-wielding Ronald Reagan takes it all out on hippies. SIMON SAYS brilliantly casts cult icon Crispin Glover as a pair of killer twins, while, closing gala MURDER PARTY puts the classic chainsaw to hysterical use!
In all cases the feature films will be screening for the first time theatrically in Toronto, and in almost half the cases, this will also be the Canadian Premiere! The premiere status is marked on each page. All features will play exclusively, one night only, at the Bloor Cinema this October 19-25, as part of Toronto After Dark Film Festival.
